Using an external tool to code VBA

Hi,

I've loaded on GitHub the first project I've written in VBA called ETransL. It is an ETL tool.

I wrote other Excel based work (also on Github) using Python (Python interacting with an Excel workbook).

My idea for ETransL is to develop this further (with the help of other GitHub enthusiasts). My question is whether I can use an IDE I am more comfortable with keeping in mind that my aim is that further development will be community driven.

I'd appreciate input from anyone who has maybe done something similar.
