I cannot get the PostgreSQL option to show up in GET DATA>FROM DATABASE option for Excel 2016. I have followed Microsoft instructions about downloading the Ngpsql data provider but it still does not show up. I have been using it on the Standard Office 2010 Excel for a couple of years but cannot get it to work on 2016.
Any advice appreciated.

Hi Cindy, and welcome to the forum.

I suspect that you have a "consumer" grade SKU of Office 2016, not an Enterprise SKU. If you go to File --> Account, what do you have listed for your version of Office?

I'm running Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus (Subscription Product) and the PostgreSQL is an available choice.

It says Microsoft Office Famille et Petite Entreprise 2016. Version 1704. I normally buy Office via VLA but got a few "box" copies when I needed some in a hurry. I am an I.T. manager for a hospital.

Ah, okay. So the equivalent English SKU for this is "Home & Business". And that's the issue.

For whatever reason, Microsoft decided to only include certain connectors in certain SKUs of Office. The theory - I guess - was that small businesses don't need Enterprise level database connectors. You'll find that you're missing other connectors as well, like Exchange, SQL server and more.

To get all the connectors (including PostgreSQL), I believe you're going to need to the Professional Plus SKU. (That Plus is key here, and things like Premium are not good enough, unfortunately.)

I hope this helps!

I was afraid of that. I spent 2 1/2 hours on the phone with Microsoft this morning being punted around and you've told me more in this short time than they did!! I will upgrade my Office and hopefully that will do the trick. Thanks so much!!

He is correct I had to purchase a pro plus license to get the connectors
